Day 2: Settling into Kiwi Life

Published on 4 November 2024 at 06:33

Day two in Auckland, and I’ve already come face-to-face with the quirks and beauty of New Zealand life.

Morning Stroll in St. Johns – I kicked off the day by wandering through St. Johns, a charming neighborhood with a mix of urban vibe and natural tranquility. Walking along the quiet streets, I couldn’t help but feel like I was starting to find my rhythm here—one foot in adventure, one foot firmly planted in curiosity.

Conquering Mt. Wellington – Next up was Mt. Wellington, because apparently, Auckland doesn’t do easy mornings. The climb wasn’t exactly Everest, but it gave me a challenge and a workout, and at the top, it all made sense. With the city stretched out below me, I was met with this incredible view of Auckland that honestly looked like it was ripped from a postcard. A moment I knew would stay with me, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to see the city.

My First Driving Lesson– After hiking, my cousin decided to introduce me to a new rite of passage: driving on the left. Now, for anyone who’s only known right-side driving, this is a mental workout. I took the wheel with a mix of nerves and excitement, all while my cousin coached me through each turn. It was strange but somehow satisfying, like learning to walk all over again.

Day’s End – By the time we got home, I felt like I’d packed a week’s worth of experiences into a single day. From finding my footing in St. Johns to getting my first taste of left-side driving, Auckland was showing me that there’s always more to explore. This city’s already surprising, challenging, and captivating me in ways I hadn’t expected—and it’s only day two.
